Trending Spring Style | The Midi Dress
Posted on April 21 2014
As the name suggests, a midi dress is neither a mini or maxi, with its hem falling somewhere between mid-calf and below the knee. Showing up every where from runways and red carpets, to the sidewalks of city streets and suburban offices, midis are wildly popular this spring.
What makes this dress a trending choice for forward-thinking fashionistas? For one, it's classy and sophisticated, deriving its look from the 50s and 60s when modest hem lengths were more appropriate for women entering the workforce. Even though midis provide a good deal of coverage, they tend to hug and allow you to flaunt your curves (hello Joan Harris!).
Petite ladies look best in midis that are just below the knee, while taller women can wear them longer. Your best bet is to find the perfect style and have it tailored to your height.
Heels elongate the leg and tend to be the best choice for the midi length. Consider nude, metallic or light-colored heels to further extend the leg line, preventing a stumpy or cut-off look.
Whether you're short or tall, big or small, a contouring midi tailored to your proportions will give you a lady-like chic, office and evenings out look.
